I am a bit unconventional for something that demands as much concentration as the art of piano.
I avoid isolating myself too early. I prefer to stay connected to life.
While I prepare, I like to be surrounded by people I love. I want to experience interactions until the very last minute, to capture vitality before stepping on stage.
A conversation, a face, a feeling… anything that touches me during the day might become part of the performance.
The desire to learn is often leading my life.
To learn is to have a strong desire to live.
It is a spark that keeps us growing, breathing, moving forward. I grab emotions everywhere around me and transform them.
Sometimes, small unplanned moments change the way I play later at night.
On some other days I need to be alone. When something heavy and personal just happened.
I listen to my inner self a lot. I can feel the ticking of time until the concert begins.
A few minutes before the show, I close my eyes and focus in silence. I think of the people I miss and the people I cherish. I feel grateful for living an existence so beautiful. I know where I come from. I feel grateful for being deeply alive and aligned with my biggest dreams.
I know that you, in the audience, have waited for this moment, sometimes for a whole year before the show. You organized, traveled, planned everything so you can be there.
No matter if I’m tired, the moment I step on stage I want to offer you the best experience possible.
I see each concert as a new rendez-vous.
Then the curtain opens. A collective emotion starts spreading and I have to be in control to shape it with instinct. I cannot miss.
In that moment, I want to honour all the efforts you made, and live up to the trust you place in me when you choose to be there.
Every night is unique and a whole journey.
Sincerely,
Sofiane
