To me stage is sacred.
When I sit next to the piano, I want the audience to feel what I feel without translation, without filter. Music without sentences leaves space for each of your stories, like on my solo piano albums.
In those moments, I feel like I’m expressing myself while playing the soundtrack of every individual life in the audience. My music is truly yours.
I also think this world needs more room for introspection. Moments to pause, reflect, and travel inside ourselves. It is part of my spirituality and philosophy.
I like the very beginning of each show. This precise instant when the lights dim and you hold your breath all together.
It feels like the world stops, waiting for something invisible to happen. Everything lies in this moment: tension, emotion, connection. When the first note is played, all that energy is released at once.
I’m not trying to hide behind silence. It is rather the opposite, my way of being fully transparent. During my concerts, you can find your own meaning and path.
Each individual hears something different. Your own story, your own memories and visuals. It is the beauty of music in its pureness.
My relationship with you is built on trust. I can’t fake while performing on stage. The glances we share during a performance are powerful and deep. I see your faces, I feel your attention, your heartbeat aligned with mine. It means a lot to me.
Our conversation is made of vibrations.
Sometimes I think of the great Classical masters who inspired me, who could speak entire universes without saying a single word. I respect them and I respect Classical tradition.
I only spoke once on stage at Bercy.
For those who followed my career from its beginning you know I pick my words carefully. In Piano Scenes #4 I also gave you important clues about my next album track names. Details are important always.
Here is our space for words. In those Piano Scenes I express myself to you deeper than I ever did with sentences.
In conclusion I prefer talking through my piano. I also prefer to let the piano talk. Each of them has a voice of its own and a soul depending on its history and background. One that carries everything I could ever try to say.
Sincerely,
Sofiane
