I’ve been asked many times if I came to Los Angeles to chase a dream.
But in truth, I came to learn how to slow down.
Long drives through Sunset Boulevard became my meditation. The nights alone at the piano, the quiet of the canyons: all of it seeped slowly into my music.
This city taught me a different kind of patience. It showed me that inspiration isn’t something to find, but something to hear.
Sometimes the notes came like sunlight: sharp, simple, inevitable. Other times they hid behind the heat, distant, delicate, waiting for night to fall before revealing themselves. I learned to let silence linger a little longer, to trust that beauty would reappear when it was ready.
In those moments, Los Angeles felt like a mirror. It reflected who I was becoming. Less restless, more aware.
I began to notice details that used to slip by: the color of the sky just before sunset, the echo of my own footsteps after midnight, the faint hum of the city when the wind shifts.
Everywhere I looked, there was rhythm. The ocean breathed in measures, the palm trees swayed in tempo, the traffic lights on Sunset started to pulse like a metronome. I started to realize that music was already there, waiting in every movement, in every pause.
My fourth album was born out of that quiet. It carries within it the warmth of those endless drives, the calm breath of the hills, and the feeling of standing on the edge of something vast and golden.
In my next letter, I’ll tell you how the first melody found its way to me.
Sincerely,
Sofiane Pamart
